"jialat"

"Jialat" is a Hokkien word that literally means "sapping strength". It is used to describe a shitty situation. Examples of use:

  • "I didn't do my homework all week and my teacher wrote my mother a note. Tonight sure kena jialat jialat!"
  • "It was bad enough that I didn't do my homework all week, then when I got home I broke my mother's favourite vase! Lagi jialat!"
